What is the difference between Box Storage & Cold Storage?
Cold Storage is identical to what any furrier or department store uses to store fur coats. We use one of the leading fur vaults on the East Coast with a an outstanding reputation for professionalism and security. Furs, faux furs, suedes, leathers and cloth overcoats, ski jackets and other bulky outerwear are all placed in cold storage. All items in cold storage are on individual storage certificates, and they are stored on contoured fur and coat hangers. Box storage accommodates the balance of your wardrobe: suits, slacks, dresses, sweaters, skirts, scarves etc. These items are stored on hangers or folded depending on what method suits them best.
What types of items can I place in storage?
In addition to general wardrobe items, some of our clients use our storage service to get bulky winter quilts and comforters out of the way. Slipcovers which are rotated by season are also placed in storage. Many clients use our storage service to safely store their vintage or evening wear collections. We offer the option of a digital photography catalogue for specialty items.
Does storage protect my clothing from insect damage?
Storage does not protect your items from insect damage ... cleaning does. That is why all items that are placed in storage must be cleaned. There are no exceptions (aside from furs, suedes & leathers) . This is necessary to protect the integrity of the entire storage facility. Even if you wear a garment just once, for a couple of hours, and assume that it is safe to store without cleaning, you are mistaken. Any trace of perspiration, body oils, food or beverage can attract insects. While it is a fallacy that insects attack only dirty or soiled clothing, such garments are clearly much more susceptible than clean ones.
Why do I have to clean the clothes that I store?
All items that are placed in storage must be cleaned. This is necessary to protect the integrity of the entire storage facility.
Can I add items to my storage?
Yes. As often as you like. Some people like to usher out their entire wardrobe in one fell swoop, and others prefer the "dribs & drabs" method. Whatever your taste, we can accommodate your needs.
What are the advantages of your storage over home storage?
If you have copious closet space, and you follow the guidelines covered in our Home Storage Tips section, you can probably approximate the safety of Hallak Cleaner's professional storage service. A significant advantage remains in the condition of the garments when you decide to reintroduce them into your active wardrobe. Hallak Cleaners will clean your clothes to ensure a safe stay in storage, but it is not until you request the items back that we steam, press, finish and package them. Instead of them looking like they have been hanging around for several months, they appear freshly pressed and packaged - ready to wear!
How long can I leave my clothes with you?
Cold storage runs on a calendar year basis. Regardless of when a coat is sent to the vault, the storage certificate expires on December 31st of that year. Many clients leave coats in cold storage for consecutive seasons. This is perfectly acceptable so long as the storage account is paid and current.Box storage runs on a 6 month cycle. Summer storage of winter clothes expires on December 31st, and winter storage of summer clothes expires on June 30th. Box storage is not intended for extended time periods and must be removed at the end the storage term. If you need to leave items in box storage beyond the storage term, this can be arranged on a per garment basis.
Do I have to take everything out at once?
No. Cold storage items may be taken out individually. Even with our box storage, you may choose to take small portions of your wardrobe out of storage. Rather than one long storage inventory, we break your wardrobe down into groups of 1-5 items. This allows you request your garments incrementally.
