The Fashion Icon –
Yesterday marked a very sad day in the fashion world. The Hallak ‘family’ extends our condolences to Mr. Lagerfeld’s family and friends.
In our fifty-three years of couture dry cleaning, we have been fortunate enough to care for many of Lagerfeld’s iconic creations. These extraordinary pieces were recognizable and appreciated as the wearable art they were. His loss has touched us all at Hallak.
A quick peek at his early life:
- At 14 years old, Lagerfeld moved to Paris.
- Two years later, he won a design competition – the coat category. (He also met his soon-to-be close friend, Yves Saint Laurent.
- In his career beginnings, Lagerfeld worked with Pierre Balmain. (Balmain produced Lagerfeld’s winning coat!)
He decided to branch out on his own in 1961. Over the years, Lagerfeld would create iconic creations for Chloe, Fendi and more. Lagerfeld’s appreciation for both vintage AND creating new ‘now’ pieces made him a name that everyone knew – and wanted to wear.
Throughout the decades, he would continue to be acknowledged as a star in the fashion world. Lagerfeld’s list of firsts, accomplishments and creations is almost an impossible task. With that said, we will simply sum up that the fashion industry (and the world) have lost a very special man. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and associates. It has been an honor to care for his creations.
