Vintage Clothing Restoration
In our fast-paced world, fashion trends come and go with lightning speed. As a result, many of us find ourselves with a closet full of clothing that has fallen out of favor or simply lost its original allure. However, instead of immediately rushing to buy new clothes, consider vintage fashion.
Dry cleaning service is different than vintage restoration. Discover what the process entails below.
Treasured Garment Restoration
Treasured garment restoration services is an environmentally friendly alternative to the throwaway culture. Rather than disposing stained or outdated clothing, these services specialize in saving them. Restoration specialists breathe new life into garments in need of love.
The Garment Restoration Process
Wet cleaning (or a restoration) is ideal for heirlooms and vintage pieces. When you think restoration, some may think of odor or mold damage. However, a clothing restoration expert is able to help with these issues and more.
Pre-inspection & evaluation
Our restoration process begins with a thorough evaluation of your garment. Your garments is carefully examined for any damages including tears, loose buttons, missing embellishments, and discoloration. Based on the evaluation, we develop a personalized restoration.
Wet Cleaning aka Restoration
Our fabric restoration experts provide a range of techniques to restore the clothing’s color and texture. In the case of light fading, we may use color restoration methods to bring back the vibrancy. For tougher stains and marks, we utilize specialized cleaning agents that effectively lift stains. Wet cleaning involves a gentle solvent bath with mild agitation over time. Depending on the discoloration, additional soaks may be necessary.
Hand-finishing
Once cleaned, your garment is inspected. If no additional soaks are needed, the item is then hand-finished. More complex designs require extensive finishing. (Pleated items will require re-pleating. This is a costly process.)
Post-inspection and Packaging
Your items is inspected again. At this time, you may choose to inspect your item prior to be packaged. Often, vintage and heirloom garments are preserved. Hallak uses museum-quality archival boxes. Clothing is wrapped in acid-free tissue paper and then placed in the preservation box.
