Wedding Dress Cleaning and Preservation
Whether you are selling or storing, your beloved gown needs a professional cleaning. Plan on keeping your dream gown? Keep it looking its best for future generations. The preservation process is essential to maintaining its timeless beauty. Vintage and couture wedding gowns are our specialties!
Let’s take a look at the process:
- Complete Gown Inspection. Hallak’s dress preservation team inspects your bridal gown top to bottom (and every layer in-between). We are looking for stains, tears, loose threads, missing beads, and more.
- Before Images. One of our wedding specialists take pre-care images. They are for your wedding gown preservation report.
- Minor Repairs. (If applicable) This is an ideal time to take care of those tears, loose buttons, and other minor items.
- Pre-treatment. Stains and hem soil receive spot treatment prior to the full cleaning. This is a crucial part of the cleaning process.
- Patented Anti-sugar Treatment (or Anti-Yellowing Treatment). Your gown receives Hallak’s special patented anti-sugar treatment. This prevents future issues stemming from (sugar) invisible stains.
- Wedding Gown Cleaning Process. Skilled professionals clean your wedding dress. (The solvent and process determined by the fabric and gown condition.)
- Expert Hand-finishing. We place a bust form in your wedding gown. Then, it is hand-finished. The presser inspects your gown again. Any loose threads and other minor issues are addressed.
- Post Images. We take your gown report’s final images.
- Gown Preservation*. Hallak’s preservations come with a lifetime warranty. It is backed by both Hallak and the Association of Wedding Gown Specialists. We wrap your gown in acid-free packaging materials. Folding and place in a bridal gown preservation chest, which is a museum archival preservation acid-free box. White cotton viewing gloves and instructions included.
*If you choose not to preserve your gown, it will still receive the same steps #1-7 (minus the report images).

Wedding Dress Preservation Cost
Wondering what a wedding gown preservation costs?
There are many factors that affect wedding gown preservation services. This includes style, dress fabrics, gown value, current condition, wedding date, and ornamentation.
Many brides think that a gown that isn’t heavily soiled is ‘easy’ to clean (and less expensive). Ornamentation and style play a larger part than you may think. Most ornamentation need special care to maintain their delicate details. Long, cathedral trains call for additional hand-finishing time. And another example is pleating. Pleats necessitate extra attention to ensure they hold their shape. Sometimes, pleats lose their shape from sitting down. To re-pleat is costly so keep this in mind as well.
Additional Details
A bridal accessory such as a veil is included in the treatment plan cost. Additional wedding accessories may be extra.
Currently, we are asking for 10-12 weeks for the entire turnaround time. If you do need your wedding dress returned sooner, simply let us know at the time of take-in.
Your wedding gown cleaning and preservation estimate is unique to your wedding gown. We kindly ask that you use our wedding gown cleaning estimate form. If easier, you may email, call, or stop by with your wedding dress.

If you don’t clean your wedding gown in a timely manner, you risk the chance of stains settling in. This will make them difficult or impossible to remove. Whether you are saving for the future or selling, a clean gown is always the best option. If this is/will be a family gown, please clean as soon as possible. You are going to be amazing by its amazing condition.
It’s best to have your wedding gown cleaned as soon as possible. Prompt cleaning helps prevent stains from setting in. If you didn’t have it cleaned and are reading this, don’t stress. We have helped many brides with the same situation. Longer set-in stains require an extra step called a wet cleaning aka restoration. We often see this with an heirloom family gown. (Learn more about vintage wedding gown restoration today.)
Hallak’s cleaning department undergoes ongoing training. We also use the latest in solvents and technology. The team is able to remove a wide range of stains including tanner, grass, wine, and makeup. It is important to note that some ‘staining’ is actual fabric damage. For heavy hem soil, you can expect a lift of at least 85%. Ask a team member if you have any concerns.
Ex) Silk train hems can look heavily soiled. Even if we properly clean the hem, there can be a ding look left behind. This is due to the silk fabric fibers worn down by friction.
Store your preservation box in a cool, dry place. Avoid direct sunlight, humidity, and extreme temperature changes. Basements and attics are a no-no.
Thanks to our patented anti-sugar treatment and acid-free packaging, your gown is safe. It is important to inspect your gown periodically. If you do notice yellowing, this can be due to the fabric or ornamentation. Call Hallak or a member of the Association of Wedding Gown Specialists. This is part of your preservation guarantee.
Yes, you can open the preservation box to view your gown. In fact, we encourage you to. Use your white cotton viewing gloves. After viewing (no dancing around!), carefully wrap back up in the acid-free tissue paper. If you have trouble placing back in the box, please feel free to request our assistance. (Again, it’s part of your gown preservation lifetime guarantee!)
