When it comes to any party, it is important to dress appropriately. A proper party invitation should give you an inkling as to what you should wear.

And if you’re throwing an event, please keep this in mind! Don’t assume people will just know what to wear. Your guests will thank you for it. The holiday season is very special so you definitely will want to look and feel your best. You can still make a positive statement at a more casual holiday party.

When it comes to a casual event, it is important to strike the right balance between laidback and holiday festive. If you have received the invitation, look for any special dress code indications. Most likely, you’ll have a good understanding of the event based on the time, venue space, and theme.

Find yourself wondering should you dry clean dress shirts – or simply wondering how often? With over 50+ years of expert garment care behind us, we are happy to answer these questions.

In a world where convenience often takes precedence, the care and maintenance of our wardrobe can be overlooked. However, when it comes to dress shirts, the dry cleaning process should be an informed decision. After all, dress shirts come in all price points. And if you have chosen luxury or custom shirts, then it’s extremely important to protect your investment. Over the years, we have heard countless horror stories from people coming to us after an inexperienced cleaners change the look and/or feel of a button-down. When in doubt, leave this level of care to the professionals.

How to Decide Should You Dry Clean Dress Shirts?

1. Prolonged Fabric Life

Typically, dress shirts are made from delicate and high-quality fabrics (e.g. luxury cotton, silk, or linen). To maintain their original look and feel, these materials require special care. Professional dry cleaning prevents the wear and tear that can occur in traditional washing machines; it helps to preserve the fabric’s strength, texture, and color.

How to Clean Outdoor Furniture Cushions

With Labor Day weekend right here, it’s the right time to clean your patio furniture including those outdoor cushions. Get them ready for end-of-the-summer guests – and get ahead of the the pre-seasonal storage cleaning.

Summertime is the perfect time to enjoy your home and outdoor space. Balconies, patios, and decks are the ideal summer gathering space. From a quiet coffee break to backyard weddings, let’s make sure your patio furniture is always welcoming.

Benefits of Preventative Care for Outdoor Cushions

Throughout the warmer months, your outdoor furniture certainly sees its share of sunlight, rain, insects, food, drink spills, etc. While you may periodically (or in an ’emergency’, i.e. bird droppings) spot cleaning, this does not remove all the dirt, food remnants and other possible damaging outside factors.

If your item has not been cleaned all season, your items may be in the need of an extensive cleaning. Deep cleanings are the best way to truly ensure that you won’t have surprises the upcoming spring season.

How to Clean Outdoor Furniture Cushions

Let’s dive into how to clean outdoor cushions.

Start with reviewing the care label and cushion fabric.
Gather your cleaning supplies including mild detergent, soft bristle brush, etc.
Move cushions to a clean area ahead of the actual cleaning
Remove any loose dirt by vacuuming each cushion cover. Don’t skip this step – and use your upholstery vacuum attachment.

Stain Removal

When it comes to stain removal or spot cleaning, we always advise people to be cautious. Follow your cushion’s care label instructions for the type of detergent, clean water temperature, etc. While some outdoor fabric may respond to pressure washer, others may require a gentler touch.

General Cleaning Techniques

Again, we do advise you to follow your care label instructions or turn to a professional. (Hallak Cleaners does offer this service.)

Soapy Water Solution: Use a mild soap or detergent mixed with warm water.
Scrubbing the Outdoor Cushions: Gently scrub with a sponge or soft bristle brush (depending on fabric!). (Certain set-in stains may require a professional‘s touch.*)
Rinsing Thoroughly: Be sure to remove all dirt and soap residue with clean water.
Dealing with Mildew: When it comes to mildew, you may need to see a professional’s care or attempt to remove with a solution of solution of water and white vinegar.

*Please note that stains that have settled in are not always possible to lift 100%. It is always better to treat stains as soon as possible.

Drying Clean Patio Cushions

Once cleaned, revisit your cushion’s care label instructions on the proper drying method. Most likely, you will have to air dry. Confirm if they should be drying in the sunlight or in the shade. Reshaping and fluffing may also be needed. Prior to storage, make sure the outdoor cushions are completely dried.

With the end of the summer just a few weeks away, you are most likely trying to make the most of your time.

This could mean a trip to your summer home, a big all-out trip, or spending time with local friends. When it comes to fashion, it doesn’t really matter what you are actually doing. You simply want to look and feel your best.

End of Summer Packing Made Easy

For those traveling (even a short distance), packing can be stressful!

Before you even start, take a few minutes to consider what you will need. Take into consideration the following:

Location’s weather (and its possibilities)?
How active will you be?
Amount of pool/beach time?
Any formal events included?
What level of comfort is needed for any travel time?

All of these questions may seem obvious, but we have all been stuck missing that one (or few) item. Why stress when you’re away? Although we love a reason to shop, it’s better to be prepared.

July weddings are very popular for many reasons. When we think of the New York metro area, the weather is very welcoming for outdoor events and the perfect time to take a little time away.

Of course, there is our areas heat and humidity to contend with. When choosing your wedding attire (wedding party and guests included!), it’s important to take temperature issues into consideration.

Summer Weddings

For the most part, July typically offers warm and sunny weather in many parts of the world. Therefore, it is considered an ideal time for all sorts of outdoor weddings such as garden ceremonies, beachside nuptials, and backyard receptions. Hopefully, it allows the happy couple to plan their special day without worrying about extreme rain or cold. Of course, you should always have a backup plan (or tent!) just in case. The weather is never to be trusted!

With summer in full swing, you can expect nature to help out in with a beautiful backdrop. Blooming flowers and lush greenery provide that perfect accent for your wedding images and complete celebration.

We also have to mention how bountiful July is when we think of fresh fruits and flowers. Take advantage of nature’s seasonal items for beautiful bouquets, stunning centerpieces, and menu items.

Wedding Party Fashion

If you have chosen a July or summer wedding it’s important to consider the warm weather and humidity. How can you maintain your overall aesthetic and feel comfortable at the same time.

Lightweight and breathable fabrics. Linen, silk, organza, lace, and cotton are ideal.
Sleeve options. Short-sleeves are best under suits, jumpsuits, or as a standalone. Strapless and sleeveless gowns will keep you cool.
Flowy silhouettes. Wedding dresses that allow for movement are both flattering and comfortable. Loose suits are also great for airflow.
Lighter hues. Traditional brides will have no issues choosing a white gown that reflects sunlight. And don’t forget about your bridesmaids! Opt for light-colored suits and dresses in light gray, tan, or shades of pastel.
