Green Cleaners Really Do Exist!
By now, you have come across a green cleaners in your neighborhood – in any neighborhood. ‘Green’ or ‘organic’ dry cleaning stores are very familiar sightings. The implication is that they are somehow ‘better’ for our environment. In fact, any dry cleaning solvent that includes a carbon molecule is technically an ‘organic’ solvent (which is almost any petroleum based solvent). So what does this all mean?
It means that environmental responsibility is linked far more closely to the “manner” in which a company operates rather than their chosen solvent. At Hallak, we don’t have signage in our window proclaiming that we are an organic cleaner – even though all of the solvents we use easily qualify us to make that assertion. Instead, we quietly “do the right thing” – and this hasn’t escaped the attention of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. We were awarded their Certificate of Environmental Stewardship in recognition of the myriad of ways in which we try to reduce the size of our environmental footprint.
