Easy Swimwear Care
Through the years (and especially with age), women have learned that finding the right swimsuit is not an easy thing to do. Two-piece swimwear can mirror the experience of shopping for jeans or undergarments; the quest for a perfect fit can be both daunting and exhausting. To further aggravate the situation, most suits last on average about one season. Don’t let all that money and time be a waste! Here are some Hallak Cleaners tips to help extend your swimsuits life:
Take advantage of your beach and pool’s clean water showers. If you are one to hop in and out of the water, it is best to rinse off with cool water and then soak up some rays.
Final Dip of the Day.
Yes, the sun can be exhausting. However, you should protect your investment and take the steps to properly care for your suit. If possible use special detergent or mild hand soap, rinse thoroughly with cold water. Do not wring out but rather gently squeeze. Let your bathing suit air dry on a flat surface so as to preserve its shape. (As with all clothing, Hallak Cleaners reminds our clients to avoid direct sunlight.)
Watch where you sit.
The delicate fabric can easily catch and snag. If you are by the pool or lounging on a deck chair, protect your suit by placing a towel underneath yourself. It’s also wise (and fashionable) to invest in a great cover-up; these are useful for numerous reasons. While making a fashion statement, they also act as a great barrier against harsh surfaces…and any food or drink you may enjoy.
Give it a rest.
In an ideal world, we would have more than one swimsuit that we loved to be seen in. Purchasing additional suits will give you the luxury of allowing each suit at least 24 hours time to completely dry; this is perfect for allowing it to recover it’s shape. Planning on relaxing in that hot tube? Invest in a less expensive suit for such an occasion; hot water is not ideal but so relaxing. Do your best to avoid hot tubs with your costlier swimwear.
You may be asking yourself, “Is there anything I may do to prep my swimsuit prior to me wearing it?” Excellent question! One suggestion is to soak your suit in cool water and vinegar; the recommended amounts are 1 tablespoon of white vinegar for every quart of water. This soak should help your suit keep looking vibrant and colorful. It is also suggested that you shower prior to wearing your suit. While not as damaging as chlorine and sunlight, your bodily oils can also affect your suit. Once showered, this is the perfect time to put on your first layer of sun lotion or spray. After allowing a few minutes to try, slip into your suit.
Similar to your other seasonal storage, your swimwear deserves some attention. Clean thoroughly and allow it to dry properly (and thoroughly!). Hallak Cleaners discourages the use of plastic for permanent storage; plastic bins and bags tend to trap heat and humidity that contributes to the oxidization of stains and general discoloration of fabrics.
